When a limited-overs match that needs a winner ends in a tie, it goes to a super over: a one-over shootout for each side.
The rules
Each team nominates three batters and one bowler. The innings lasts one over or two wickets, whichever comes first. The team that batted second in the main match bats first in the super over.
What if the super over is tied?
Another super over is played, and this continues until there is a winner. A bowler who bowled one super over cannot bowl the next.
This rule was brought in after the 2019 men’s World Cup final, when England beat New Zealand on boundary count after both the match and the super over were tied. The boundary-count tiebreaker was scrapped soon afterwards.
