The World Test Championship gives context to bilateral Test series by turning them into a two-year league. Nine teams take part in each cycle, playing six series each, three at home and three away.
How points work
Every Test is worth the same: 12 points for a win, 6 for a tie and 4 for a draw. Because teams play different numbers of matches, the table is ranked by the percentage of available points each team has won, not by total points. Slow over rates can cost teams points.
The final
The top two teams at the end of the cycle meet in a one-off final. New Zealand won the first edition in 2021, Australia the second in 2023, and South Africa the third in 2025.
