Holders Paris Saint-Germain, chasing a third straight title, thrashed Slovan Bratislava 6-1. Barcelona beat Feyenoord 5-1 and Bayern Munich swept aside Bodø/Glimt 5-0. Competition debutants Como marked their first night in the tournament by beating RB Leipzig 4-1, and Manchester United celebrated their return with a 4-0 win over Sabah.
The heavyweight clashes
Real Madrid beat Inter 2-1 with goals from Kylian Mbappé and Federico Valverde. Arsenal, beaten finalists last season, won 1-0 in Naples, and Liverpool edged Atlético Madrid 2-1. Erling Haaland scored twice as Manchester City won 2-0 in Porto.

Matchday two is on 13 and 14 October. The league phase runs until 27 January, and the final will be played at Atlético Madrid’s Metropolitano on 5 June 2027.
