India and the Asian Games: a kabaddi dynasty in numbers

Eleven golds from thirteen events, and the one year Iran broke the streak.

Kabaddi first appeared at the Asian Games in Beijing in 1990, and India have dominated it ever since.

The men’s event

India won the men’s gold at every Games from 1990 to 2014. The streak ended in Jakarta in 2018, when Iran took the title and India had to settle for bronze. India won it back at the previous Games in Hangzhou.

The women’s event

Women’s kabaddi joined the programme in 2010. India won the first two titles, Iran won in 2018, and India regained the gold in Hangzhou.

The tally

Across the 13 men’s and women’s events held before 2026, India have won 11 golds. Iran, winners of both events in 2018, are the only other nation to have won Asian Games kabaddi gold.
