Each kabaddi team has seven players on the mat, and most line-ups are built from three types of player.
Raiders
Raiders are the attackers. They cross into the opposition half to touch defenders and get back safely. The best raiders combine speed, agility and a feel for when to attack and when to wait out the clock.
Defenders
Defenders are usually split into corners, who stand at each end of the defensive line, and covers, who stand next to them. Corners typically start tackles, often with an ankle or thigh hold, while covers close the escape route.
All-rounders
All-rounders can raid and defend. They give a coach flexibility, especially late in a match when a team may need a do-or-die raid or a super tackle.
