Since 2022, if the deciding set at any Grand Slam reaches 6–6, the players play a tiebreak to 10 points, and the winner must lead by two. The deciding set is the fifth in men’s singles and the third in women’s singles.
Before that, each major had its own rule, and the French Open had no final-set tiebreak at all. The change followed marathon matches such as John Isner’s win over Nicolas Mahut at Wimbledon in 2010, whose fifth set finished 70–68.
Serving in a tiebreak
The first point is served by one player, then serve alternates every two points. Players change ends every six points.
